Plays

These first three plays constitute a trilogy which chronicles the events of several generations of one particular family, beginning in 1932 and ending circa 1990. It emphasizes the psychological damage caused by the Holocaust leading to its eventual epiphany. One of these plays has already been produced.

MAMAN ET PAPA
A play in one act
5 males, 6 females
(casting requirement can be met with 7 players through the use of double casting)
This love story begins in Strasbourg, 1932 and ends in Paris, 1942. 28yearold Joseph from Russia meets 23yearold Esfeera from Roumania. As Jews in a country unfriendly both economically and politically, to fall in love is not the best option but they do… hopelessly. They conceive a child named David, marry, (in that order) bring up the child. It's a struggle to make a decent living. They subsequently try Bordeaux, then Paris. As Hitler's power increases, their chances for survival decrease until they get caught up in the Nazi dragnet. Their son, David, survives and years later, makes a pilgrimage to Aushwitz.

THE SILENT HEROES
A play in two acts
4 males, 3 females
David is hidden by a French couple during the Second World War and is eventually brought to the United States by a relative. Years later, he returns to visit who is left of the family who saved him. The events take on a mystical nature.

WHERE WERE YOU ON YOUR NINTH BIRTHDAY?
A play in one act
3 males, 3 females
David, now a young father, must cope with the turmoil of having escaped the Nazi Holocaust. He is torn by the guilt of celebrating the ninth birthday of his own son under privileged circumstances, remembering that on his own ninth birthday, he and his parents were living in squalor and mortal peril.

THE VASE OF MONTPELLIER
A play in one act
4 males, 3 females
(Indirectly related to the three plays above.) Yuppie San Francisco director and his actresswife (who is the granddaughter of the original couple in 'Maman et Papa') find themselves in the throes of sleuthing as the result of having purchased a vase in an obscure antique shop. The intrigue is further complicated by a very intense theater disagreement regarding a play about her grandparents.

The next two plays revolve around Marjorie Swan captured at two stages of her life separated by about fifteen years.

THE TRUTH AS SEEN THROUGH THE EYES OF MARJORIE SWAN
A play in one act
2 males, one female
A marriage is about to end tragically. The wife, Marjorie Swan (in her midthirties), blames it on her husband's friend whom she suspects of being gay.

THE VEXING PLIGHT OF MARJORIE SWAN

A play in teo acts
3 males, 2 females
It is around fifteen years later. Marjorie Swan, now in her early fifties and living alone in a condominium, falls in love with young man who moves in across the hall. He's 27. She tries everything she knows to make him fall in love with her, all complicated by other issues that get in the way.

FAIRY TALES DO COME TRUE

A play in two acts
4 males, 3 females
The perseverance and optimism of a handicapped young woman affects the lives of seven people. They are: a middleaged couple, a very young couple, a gay couple and a single woman.

I'M LOOKING FOR APTOS
A play in 13 scenes
i male
The protagonist has just reached his 40th birthday. He is completely disillusioned by what he's become, having allowed himself to be seduced into the life of wealth in favor of true of love. The major events of his life are recalled in surrealistic expressions. The result is poignantly outrageous and hilarious. It is an acting tour de force for a male actor.

THE TRAFFIC PRONKSTERS
A tenminute play
4 main characters, many minor roles (optional)
What the protagonist doesn't know is that all his traffic problems are carefully orchestrated by the 'traffic pronksters' residing in another planet and whose task it is to enrage the inhabitants on Planet Earth.

BACKGAMMON, OPERA AND MICHAEL FEINSTEIN
A play in two acts
3 males, 1 female, 2 either gender
Somewhere in space. On the premise that God is actually a playwright and the people of planet Earth are the actors, He capriciously decides to 'transfer' out of the planet a being who turns out to be the gene duplication of another who's about to be born. With the help of the stage manager and his assistant, we meet the possible 'candidates'.

ALONG CAME ZORENA WELLES
A play in two acts
4 males, 3 females
Circa 1975. A man living in an obscure corner of the world meets Zorena Welles, the most celebrated entertainer in the world. The question is this: Does he really meet her or is it fantasy as a way to battle boredom and restlessness? The incidents are authentic enough to be believable, yet a little over the top to suspect flight into imagination.

ANDREW WILBURG
A play in two acts
2 males, 5 females
A young man's intense disaccord with his strict, uncompromising father launches him into a series of events, one in particular of horrendous nature. A special friendship and an unexpected tragedy compel him to seek the redemption he'd been avoiding.

YOU LOVE HER A LOT, DON'T YOU!
A play in two acts
3 males (plus one optional), one female

But he seeks to do something special besides only enjoying his life. He discovers CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and becomes an advocate for a young teen age boy. This is going very well until his wife is struck with breast cancer. It alters his priorities, top one being taking care of his wife during the treatment., taking away precious time with the boy.
