Current Projects
Happy ChallaDay!
This is the musical comedy parody of White Christmas for radio! It is set in Israel and is about an old general who is retiring (get it!). The music is excellent and the show was broadcast 12.21.08 on KUNM. Run time is approximately one hour. Stage version available.
My Dear Kitty
This is a one act musical remembrance of Anne Frank told/sung through the perspective of her journal (Kitty). This is being written for a December ’09 release on NPR but can be performed on stage as a one act. Run time- 1 hour.
Candy’s Last Dance
This is a musical about the life of Texas stripper Candy Barr who became an icon in Texas and was also a confidant of Jack Ruby. Think Best Little Whorehouse in Texas times 10! Stage time is full length in four acts. (2 hours approx)
Again
This play came about when, a few years ago, I posed the question, "If you could do it over again, what's the one thing you would change?" to a group of senior citizens I met with at an assisted living facility. Their responses and their life stories proved to be variously touching, funny, charming, thought-provoking, and deeply moving and they provided the basic building blocks of the play that emerged. I composed "period" music in the styles of the 1950s and '60s as the signature pieces for each of the fourteen characters in the play. Run time approx two hours. Stage version available.
Taken, How Will They Be Remembered
Taken is a one act musical which provides a very personal depiction of the 9/11 tragedy. The script follows the life of Drew and Jenny, two young investment bankers whose life together begins and ends at the Twin Towers, along with several other characters. The music and lyrics are melodic and touching and add a unique and special dimension to the story. I sought to capture the import of this tragedy through the eyes of people who lived it and, importantly, to allow the audience to experience how those involved felt during and immediately after this event. Run time approximately 40 minutes. Stage version available.
A Different Engine
This musical tells the fascinating story of eccentric Victorian inventor Charles Baggage who invented the first programmable computer (the Difference Engine) in the 1830's. This Goliath of steel and gears weighed tons and was powered by steam. Had the computer been built it would have advanced computer science light years from where it is today. The story of what happened is a fascinating tale of obsession, romance, and character defects which get in the way of success. This is timely because a replica of the Difference Engine is on tour across the country in celebration of the anniversary of Charles Babbage. There's been quite a bit of press coverage on this. Run time is approximately one hour. Stage version available.
Tesla vs. Ten United States
This fascinating radio play is searching for an inspired home! A musical about the life of Nikola Tesla the brilliant inventor of radio! His invention was stolen by Marconi who got the credit for it until the Supreme Court finally righted this injustice in the 1940's. What could be more relevant for radio theatre? Run time is approximately one hour. Stage version available.
Google Dot Diz & Cardio Zapped!
I love this radio musical. It is about a time machine which brings back a children's story from the year 2309 and what happens when the information contained is released. In keeping with time travel plots the very present changes as the future is unveiled! Run time is approximately one hour. Stage version available.
Between
This musical tells the tale of all things "in between" like adolescence/adulthood, life/death, North/South- You name it! Run time is variously one hour or two (for two acts). Stage version available.
