Biography
Kitty Dubin is an award winning playwright whose productions include MIRRORS, THE LAST RESORT, CHANGE OF LIFE, THE DAY WE MET, DANCE LIKE NO ONE'S WATCHING and COMING OF AGE. Kitty was named Playwright Residence at the Jewish Ensemble Theatre last year where four of her plays have premiered. She received a Jewish Woman in the Arts Award for lifetime achievement in the Detroit Metropolitan Area and has been the recipient of two individual artist grants in playwriting from the Michigan Council of the Arts. She has been teaching playwriting at Oakland University for the past ten years and is a popular speaker at writer's conferences.

THE BLANK PAGE revolves around Amy Kaplan, a frustrated creative writing professor, struggling to resurrect her once successful literary career. Threatened by a fearless and talented student, her anxiety about meeting the deadline for her new novel creates conflict in her marriage to a rabbi, tension with her best friend, and nearly pushes her over the edge. This compelling dramedy examines the risks and rewards of putting yourself out there.
COMING OF AGE

COMING OF AGE takes place at a cottage on Lake Michigan, where Sarah and Holly, both in their late 50's and best friends since college, spend the same week together every summer with their spouses. For the first time in twelve years, Holly, recently widowed, arrives alone and inconsolable. Totally dependent on her husband for thirty years, she now feels lost and unable to cope. Sarah and her husband, Ben, are also struggling with a number of issues--facing an empty nest, the loss of their parents, the prospect of retirement and the deterioration of their own marriage. Over the course of three summers, we follow these baby boomers as they confront the realtiies of aging.
DANCE LIKE NO ONE'S WATCHING

At a crisis point in their relationship, a couple who has only been married for three years, seeks help from a marriage counselor. In spite of the considerable skills of the counselor, the sessions turn into a psychological roller coaster for everyone involved, including the therapist who has his own marital woes.
THE DAY WE MET
Premiered at the Jewish Ensemble Theatre. (2000)
THE DAY WE MET is a group of six comedic one acts that all deal with first time meetings which prove to be life changing. Two of the plays have specific Jewish content: Mimi and Me is about a perky young volunteer who tries cheering up a ninety year old Jewish resident of a nursing home who has lost the will to live. Strictly Personal focuses on two single people, desperate to settle down, who meet through a personal ad in the Jewish News. Individual plays can be produced separately.
