Hindi Brooks writes for theatre, print and television. Her plays are published by Dramatic, Pioneer, Baker, I. E. Clark and Syracuse University Press. They have been translated into French, German, Italian, Dutch and Flemish; and have been produced internationally. Los Angeles productions were seen at the Odyssey, Circle, The Playwrights Group, Theatre West, Theatre East, Theatre 40, American Renegade, Century City Playhouse and Actors Alley among others. In New York, her work has been seen at the Houseman Theatre and the West Bank. Her onewoman show, LILY (not performed by Ms. Brooks), has been seen internationally and won the Desert Theatre League award in Palm Springs (9596 season) She has been featured in The Playwrights group 10minute play series for the past ten years.
Ms. Brooks teaches playwriting at UCLA's prestigious Writers Program and lectures frequently at many schools and writers' conferences. She is the artistic Director of the Theatre 40 Writers Workshop.She is married to actor Manny Kleinmuntz, mother to actor Josh Elliot and to Nomi Kleinmuntz, novelist, book editor and photographer.

A man who deserted his wife five years earlier returns for her funeral. They had married for convenience: he was a refugee from the Nazis who wanted to stay in America, she was a wallflower who wanted to get married. She steps out of her coffin so that they can settle their differences before she's buried.
THE NIGHT THE WAR CAME HOME Drama. 4 men, 3 women
During the first night of the 1943 Detroit race riot, Esther and Nate Kaufman, who escaped from Poland during World War I, are trapped inside their store. Their son, a pacifist/medical student now reluctantly a soldier; their daughter and black soninlaw, radical students; their employee, a young black woman; and a looter, a young black man, round out the cast.
TURN A BLIND EYE Drama 4 men, 4 women
Set in 1967. Shelley and her blind mother, Malka, are holocaust survivors. Shelley, researching
a book on child survivors, meets Eliot, who has written an autobiography of his heroic deeds during World War II. After falling in love with him, Shelley finds out that he's her father and that his book and his life are lies.

An afternoon in the lives of four senior citizens on a beach front. In that time we see them not as 'old' but as 'human'. Two have a flirtation, one jog/walks to stay young, and one waits to die until the others show him a reason to live.
THE CHECK comedy 10 minutes 2 characters, gender optional.
The recipient of a check from Medicare tries to return it but can't break through the bureaucracy.
There are three versions: In one only English is spoken, in the other two the recipient uses some Russian or Yiddish words, but the audience will have no trouble understanding what is going on.

A stylized play set in a prison in the near future. A teacher who has been jailed for refusing to carry a gun on his campus is brain washed into doing so.

A hasbeen actor/director from the Yiddish stage is reduced to sleeping on couches on Broadway stage sets. When the cleaning lady discovers him, he gives her an acting lesson and gives them both moment of glory.

The story of Noah's Ark from the viewpoint of the animals, who believe that only they were meant to be saved. Since they needed a captain and a crew, they hired Noah and his family.
THE MAGIC SLINGSHOT Children's musical. 1 1/4 hours, 6 men, 4 women, 2 of either sex, several of both sexes as extras and/or dancers.
The story of David and Goliath. David is given a magic slingshot, but it doesn't work and he has to use his own resources. Goliath is huge, comical, and fully managed by his trainer his tiny, feisty mother.

RING AROUND THE KING Children's nonmusical 45 minutes, 4 men, 2 women, 1 of either gender, plus several of both genders to play several parts.
Several of the King Solomon stories are woven into this play. The main storyline: Solomon loses his Ring of Majesty to the evil Asmodias and while roaming the countryside for help discovers his humility.
